With all the laughter from our entertaining exercises, it will be hard to tell that your team is actually discovering on their feet how to work more harmoniously and efficiently, be more present and positive, communicate better, and ultimately build on each other’s ideas. Teamwork and communication skills cannot be taught in a lecture or in a book. They must be learned experientially, with members participating in exercises, receiving feedback, and practicing new techniques. This is when true breakthroughs can happen.
We start with group icebreaker activities. People might have to get in order of birthday in under a minute—without talking! The entire group may engage in a slow motion samurai battle or use the same tools used to train dolphins to train each other. We might even play some classic schoolyard games—with a twist.
Then we do some demonstrations of the simple communication tools we use in the world of improvisation that can be easily applied to your business. Participants may play a short conversation game in pairs, tell a story one word at a time, or create a spontaneous work of art. Team members play creative games as a group, discuss and debrief the exercises, and leave with fun memories, experiences, and attitudes they can bring back to the workplace.
